How to Choose the Most Suitable Prom Dress

Prom is one of the most awaited events in a teenage life. Everyone is raving about prom night. In fact, it is such a big deal that planning for your prom can take as long as one year. It is as if you are marching down the aisle saying I do to your lifelong partner. And part of the planning is of course, the prom dress.

Ladies, braise yourselves because choosing your prom dress is not as easy as you think it is.

Do you know that there are certain styles, silhouettes and color that match a specific personality or body shape? So if you think you are such an expert in choosing off the rack the design that will define your evening, take a second thought. I have here five basic tips on how to choose the prom dress that will define the course of your prom night.

Tip # 1 – Make sure you know what your body shape is

It doesn’t matter if you’ve got the most coveted hour glass shape or the most evaded pear shape. What’s important is you know and you are accepting of your actual body type. This is the most common source of mistakes when choosing the right prom dress. The silhouette for your body type defines how well you are going to look at it.

Tip # 2 – Know you skin tone

We all want to look great on that once in a lifetime princess moment. And we don’t want to spoil it just because we chose the wrong color. Sometimes, the color will make or break the way the dress will look on you. Even if you’ve got the right silhouette but the color is off, believe you me the night is not going to end the way you dream about it.

Tip # 3 - Set your budget and stick to it

Before you jump right into choosing your dream dress, you need to set your budget first. It’s okay to want the best or the prettiest prom dress but if you can’t afford it, I don’t think it is going to happen. It is also not good to be spending your life’s worth savings for a dress that you can only wear once. You also need be practical. You still need to go to college, aren’t you? So set a reasonable budget and stick to it.

Tip # 4 – Take your time

Don’t rush into a decision. It is why planning for your prom night way in advanced has a lot of merits into it.  By having enough time to choose your dress, you will be able to weigh the pros and cons of your choices. You also have the luxury of changing your options based on your current situation. For sure you will want to lose weight or get a tan or whiten your skin before the big night.

Tip # 5 – Be aware of your school rules

Sometimes even if we wanted to wear a specific style but you failed to check on the rules, you might end up not being able to attend the event. Some schools prohibit too much skin exposure. Some are a bit lenient and don’t mind showing off some skin. So it is better to be sure than sorry.
Being fabulous and amazing is probably an understatement for this event. And you can achieve this by considering these simple tips.
